This workshop is designed for hospice and palliative-care teams, chaplains, clergy, bereavement professionals, volunteers, and helping organizations.
Encounters with grief do not always stay at work. This is a space to recognize what you carry, reflect with others, and practice accompaniment without losing your connection to your own life.
A practice of Witness, Discern, Release
Witness
Practice being present without immediately trying to fix. Explore compassionate attention, deep listening, and the dignity of another person's experience.
Discern
Ask: What belongs to them? What belongs to me? What belongs to mystery? Reflect on the emotional and spiritual boundaries that support care.
Release
Honor what has touched you without carrying everything indefinitely. Explore contemplative practices and simple rituals for acknowledging accumulated grief.
What we explore together
- Recognizing vicarious grief and how it differs from burnout and compassion fatigue.
- Contemporary grief perspectives, including continuing bonds, meaning reconstruction, and the Dual Process Model.
- Spiritual and existential grief, including the temptation to rush toward explanations.
- Accompanying others without over-identifying with their experience.
- Reflection and contemplative practices for sustainable care.
